Alpha Esquires tour Marathon Oil’s Product Storage facility as part of a STEAM workshop

The Alpha Esquires kicked off their first Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, And Mathematics (STEAM) event of the year visiting Marathon Oil’s Product Storage facility in Long Beach, CA. Approximately 18 young men aged from 13 years old to 17 years old attended this tour.  After a safety-topic talk, the students toured the oil and gas storage facility and learned about how oil transverses through the logistics chain of custody from the barrel of oil to the gas tank.

The interactive conversation centered around how oil and gas companies ensure safe and compliant operations that minimize harm to people, property, and the environment. The tour concluded with personal interviews from an ARCO HAZMAT truck driver, a Manager of the Operations Control Center, and a Regional Corrosion Team Lead – all African-American Marathon Oil employees. Even parents who attended said the tour was informative and intriguing.

The next STEAM event will include a hands-on workshop on resume writing and career coaching for rising college freshmen. Alpha Esquires Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.'s chapter brothers of Beta Psi Lambda, continue to collaborate and go above and beyond to provide service and leadership development to the community.

Alpha Esquires Inc. is a mentoring program for young men in grades 7-12 currently enrolled in Los Angeles area schools.  For more information, visit http://www.alphaesquires.com/
