Sipping for Scholarship wine tasting fundraiser

On April 30th, 2016, Beta Psi Lambda hosted their annual “Sipping for Scholarships” wine tasting fundraiser. The purpose of the fundraiser is to raise funds for the chapter’s scholarship program. The chapter’s scholarship program is part of the Fraternity’s “Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College” national program which was established in 1922. The program concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement.  Statistics prove the value of this extra impetus in making the difference in the success of young African-American men, given that school completion is the single best predictor of future economic success.
If you weren’t there, you missed it!! The ladies wore their spring dresses, pastel-colored pant suits and bold separates that coordinated with their headwear and accessories. The men showed off as well, sporting an extremely polished look, with their classic navy blazers, seersucker suits and various types of loafers.
Zuri Wine Tasting provided the tasty wine, providing wine pairing classes while serving! All guests were able to take home a souvenir wine glass! The featured beverage of the day was the classy “Mint Julep”, prepared by Zuri Wine!
The mint julep is a cocktail, consisting primarily of bourbon, water, crushed or shaved ice, and fresh mint. As a bourbon-based cocktail, it is associated with the American South and the cuisine of the Southern United States in general, and the Kentucky Derby in particular. The origins of the mint julep are clouded and may never be definitively known. It originated in the southern United States, probably during the eighteenth century. U.S. Senator Henry Clay of Kentucky introduced the drink to Washington, D.C., at the Round Robin Bar in the famous Willard Hotel during his residence in the city. The term "julep" is generally defined as a sweet drink, particularly one used as a vehicle for medicine. The word itself is derived from the Spanish "julepe", from Spanish Arabic, and this from the Persian word Golâb, meaning rosewater.
Please stay tuned and don’t miss this event next year!!!
